I’m writing this review after the loss of my kitten, Haze, and I hope it helps other pet owners be more cautious. When Haze first became sick, we took him to Pet Land. The doctor diagnosed him with just a fever and gave three injections on the first day. The next day, when we returned because Haze was not improving, the same doctor did not remember which injections had been administered the previous day. We were also not provided with any receipts or bills for either visit. Since Haze’s condition was not getting better, we decided to seek a second opinion from another veterinarian. After proper testing, we were informed that Haze had feline panleukopenia (FPV) and that his liver was already under severe stress. When the second doctor asked about the injections given earlier, we went back to Pet Land to request the details. We later learned that Haze had been given meloxicam. According to the vet who later treated him, this medication can be risky for cats in certain conditions and may put additional strain on the liver. By the time Haze began receiving the correct treatment for FPV, his body was already too weak to recover, and unfortunately he passed away. What was most concerning to us was the lack of proper diagnosis, the doctor not remembering what medication had been administered, and the absence of bills or medical records. These are basic standards that pet owners should be able to rely on. I hope this review encourages better medical record keeping and more careful diagnosis so that other pets and families do not have to go through what we experienced.
