The government veterinary polyclinic on Aundh Road is the main government vet hospital for pets in Pune. In 2021 it was offering its services free, but it had no CT scan, MRI, sonography or in-patient ward. A Super Specialty Veterinary Hospital was opened in Aundh in May 2025 to add these. Call before you go to check timings and charges.

The Pune Municipal Corporation's Veterinary Section does not list a pet hospital. It runs the stray dog and cat sterilisation programme: stray dogs are caught, sterilised, vaccinated against rabies and returned to the same place within five days, with the right ear notched. Dog and cat owners within PMC limits can register their pets online at services.pmc.gov.in.

Summer: April and May can be hot. Walk dogs early in the morning and after sunset, test the pavement with the back of your hand, and keep water out at all times. Short-nosed breeds such as pugs and bulldogs overheat fastest; heavy panting, drooling or wobbling needs a vet straight away.

Monsoon: Pune gets long spells of heavy rain, and ticks multiply in the damp, so tick fever is common. Check your dog's ears, neck and paws after walks, keep tick prevention up to date, dry paws and skin folds after rain, and avoid standing water, which can carry leptospirosis.

Diwali and winter: firecracker noise frightens many pets, so keep them indoors in a quiet room with the windows shut and make sure they wear an ID tag. Winter mornings can be cold, so short-haired and older dogs may need a warm bed off the floor.
